February is American Heart Month which brings awareness to heart disease and why it is the number 1 killer amongst Americans. President Lyndon B. Johnson and millions of other people who experienced heart attacks issued the first proclamation in 1964. Since then, February has been annually declared American Heart Month.
The first Friday of American Heart Month, February 5th, is also National Wear Red Day as part of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women initiative.
